03·Ask

Ask anything, in plain English.

Natural-language questions about your own finances get a real answer, grounded in the numbers you uploaded. The Ask assistant is free.

Ask FlowVista Free
What's my savings rate?

Over the last 3 months your savings rate is 12.7% — you kept about $1,106/month of your $8,706 average income (income minus spending).

Where the rest goes:

  • Housing is your largest expense at roughly $2,400/month
  • You're investing about $600/month into your TFSA, RRSP and FHSA

At your dining plan, your rate would be closer to 16%.

To answer, the Ask assistant sends a redacted summary of your finances to our AI provider — mostly aggregates; for transaction-specific questions a small sample of matching rows may be included, with personal identifiers automatically redacted — and they don't train on it. Everything else stays on your account.

05·The differentiator

Privacy by architecture.

Not by policy. By how it's built.

01

No bank login. Ever.

There is no OAuth, no open-banking API, and no third-party aggregator. You download a CSV from your bank yourself — or import an investment-statement PDF — and upload it here. Your bank credentials never leave your bank.

02

Read in your browser.

Your file is read in your browser and never stored. Only the parsed transactions are saved to your own private account. Your transactions are encrypted in transit and at rest and isolated to your account, so other users can't see your data.

03

Never sold. View-only.

FlowVista never sells your data and never shares it with advertisers or data brokers. It's view-only by design — it can read your statements, but it can never move your money.

04

Yours to delete, anytime.

You can permanently delete your account and all your data from your Settings. Deletion is immediate and final — we currently keep no backups of your data. Export your transactions to CSV whenever you like.

06·FAQ

Common questions.

How does FlowVista get my data?+
You export a CSV from your bank, then upload it into FlowVista — and you can also import investment-statement PDFs (Questrade, RBC, and Sun Life group plans today, with more rolling out). There is no OAuth, no open-banking API, and no third-party aggregator. Your file is read in your browser and never stored — only the parsed transactions are saved to your own private account, protected by row-level security so other users can't see them.
Is my financial data safe?+
Your transactions are encrypted in transit and at rest and isolated to your account. FlowVista has no access to your bank, never sells your data, and never shares it with advertisers or data brokers. The exceptions are optional features you turn on: the Ask assistant sends a redacted summary of your finances to our AI provider (mostly aggregates; for transaction-specific questions a small sample of matching rows may be included, with personal identifiers automatically redacted — and they don't train on it), and email reminders and digests are delivered through our email provider. You can permanently delete your account and all its data from Settings at any time.
Why CSV uploads instead of connecting to my bank?+
Most Canadian banks require that you never share your online banking credentials with third parties, and doing so may affect your fraud protection. FlowVista takes a different approach: you download a CSV from your bank yourself and upload it here. Your bank credentials never leave your bank. Read why CSV uploads are safer →
Which Canadian banks are supported?+
RBC, TD, Scotiabank, BMO, EQ Bank, Tangerine, Simplii, and Desjardins have tailored CSV handling, and CIBC, Wealthsimple, and National Bank — plus any bank that exports a standard CSV — are read by the smart format detector. Investment-statement PDF import reads Questrade, RBC, and Sun Life group retirement plans (DPSP, pension, group RRSP) automatically, with more institutions rolling out — and you can add any other account manually. See step-by-step export guides →
Is FlowVista free?+
Yes. FlowVista is free during the Canadian early-access launch. No credit card required. Early users keep free access to the early-access feature set as the platform grows.
What if FlowVista shuts down?+
Your data stays yours. Export your transactions to CSV at any time, with a full-account export on the way. If FlowVista ever winds down, we commit to at least 90 days notice and keeping the export feature running until the last day.
How accurate is the auto-categorization?+
Most everyday Canadian transactions are categorized automatically. You can override any category inline, save a rule ("always tag PRESTO as Transportation"), and FlowVista will apply it going forward.
