The 5 steps

Export your Wealthsimple transactions

  1. Sign in to Wealthsimple on a desktop browser

On a desktop or laptop, head to my.wealthsimple.com and sign in with your email and password, or use Google/Apple sign-in. Complete the two-factor authentication prompt when it appears — Wealthsimple requires 2FA on every login.

TipIf you usually use the Wealthsimple mobile app, you'll want to switch to a desktop browser for the most reliable CSV download. The mobile app may have limited export options.
  2. Choose the account you want to export

From your Wealthsimple dashboard, select the account you want to export. Wealthsimple organizes your money across several account types: Cash (your spending account with a Visa prepaid card), Investing (TFSA, RRSP, Personal), Crypto, and Tax.

Cash and Investing have separate export flows, so you'll need to handle each one individually. Start with whichever account you want to bring into FlowVista first.

TipFor day-to-day spending analysis, your Wealthsimple Cash account is the one that looks most like a regular chequing account — purchases, e-Transfers, direct deposits, and bill payments.
  3. Navigate to Activity

Once inside the account, navigate to the Activity section. For investing accounts, you may also find this under Activity or Statements. This shows your full transaction history — every purchase, transfer, deposit, withdrawal, and for investing accounts, every buy, sell, and dividend.

TipWealthsimple keeps your full account lifetime history available, so you can go back as far as your account was opened. Use the date-range filter to narrow down what you need.
  4. Filter your date range and click Export

Set the date range for the transactions you want to export. Then look for the Download or Export option — this may appear as a button or icon near the activity list. Select CSV as the file format.

Grab as much history as you can — FlowVista's forecasts get sharper the more data they have to learn from.

Heads upInvestment transaction CSVs include buys, sells, and dividends — these look different from typical bank transactions. Wealthsimple Cash transactions, on the other hand, look like a regular chequing account. FlowVista handles both formats.
  5. Save the file and upload to FlowVista

Your browser will save the CSV file — usually to your Downloads folder. Wealthsimple's CSV format is clean and modern, so the file is ready to use immediately.

That's the file you upload into FlowVista. No spreadsheet tweaks needed — the FlowVista parser reads Wealthsimple's format directly, including transaction descriptions, amounts, and dates.

Pro tipRepeat steps 2-5 for each Wealthsimple account (Cash, TFSA, RRSP, etc.). FlowVista de-duplicates transactions across uploads, so you can safely batch them all together.
Cash vs. Investing — which should I export?

Wealthsimple Cash is your best bet for day-to-day spending analysis. It works like a chequing account — you'll see purchases made with your Visa prepaid card, e-Transfers, direct deposits, and bill payments. This is the data FlowVista uses to build your cashflow forecast and spending categories.

Investing accounts (TFSA, RRSP, Personal) are useful if you want to track contributions, dividends, and portfolio activity alongside your spending. FlowVista will categorize these as investment transactions so they don't skew your grocery budget.

Troubleshooting

Common issues

I can't find the Export or Download button

The export option in Wealthsimple can be subtle — look for a download icon or an "Export" link near the top of your Activity list. If you're on the mobile app, try switching to my.wealthsimple.com on a desktop browser where the full export options are available.

My investment CSV has buys, sells, and dividends — is that normal?

Yes, that's expected. Wealthsimple Investing accounts export all transaction types: buys, sells, dividends, contributions, and withdrawals. These are different from typical bank transactions. FlowVista recognizes these investment-specific entries and categorizes them separately so they don't distort your spending analysis.

Is Wealthsimple Cash a real bank account?

Not exactly. Wealthsimple Cash funds are held by Canadian ShareOwner Investments Inc., not a traditional bank. However, for CSV export and FlowVista import purposes, it works identically to a chequing account — you'll see purchases, e-Transfers, deposits, and withdrawals just like any other bank's CSV.

Does FlowVista need a special CSV format from Wealthsimple?

No. FlowVista reads the standard CSV that Wealthsimple exports — including its column names, date format, and amount conventions. Don't open the file in Excel before uploading; some versions of Excel silently reformat dates and break the import. Upload the raw .csv file as it came from Wealthsimple.

Can I combine Cash and Investing CSVs into one FlowVista upload?

Yes. You can upload multiple CSVs at once — Cash, TFSA, RRSP, Personal, and Crypto accounts. FlowVista de-duplicates across files by date, amount, and description, so you won't double-count anything. You can also mix Wealthsimple CSVs with exports from other banks in the same upload.

Is it safe to download and upload my transaction data?

The CSV stays on your computer until you upload it. Once inside FlowVista, your data is encrypted at rest, protected by row-level security (so only your account can read it), and never shared with advertisers. FlowVista has no connection to Wealthsimple — it only sees the file you chose to upload. Full details: Privacy Policy.
